Wordle hard mode can be enabled by tapping on the Settings button (top right corner) and toggling on Hard Mode. When turned on, any revealed hints must be used in subsequent guesses.
Wordle was the brainchild of software engineer Josh Wardle. The game was publicly released in 2021 and was later acquired by The New York Times Company in January 2022.
Players start by guessing a 5-letter word, and the objective is to find the hidden 5-letter word within six attempts. After each guess, the tiles change color to show if the letters in your guess are in the hidden word: correct letters in the right spot are marked green, correct letters in the wrong place are marked yellow, and letters not in the secret word are marked gray.
The best starting words have a mix of commonly used consonants and vowels and the letter positioning should also be taken into account. The five best starting words are:
